Higher standard of cleaning on public transport

Buses and trains should be kept much cleaner. Cleaners should be properly trained, properly equipped and properly rewarded for the vital job they do. Hand sanitisers should be available routinely at bus and train stations and on public transport. We need to recognise cleaners as important workers doing essential work to a high standard.

Why the contribution is important

Higher levels of public hygiene will help to limit the spread of the virus.

In addition to the above. All travellers should wear face masks to limit the spread of any infection.

This will be difficult to achieve by the very nature of transport. People get off and on trains, buses and taxis throughout their journey. It would probably require a travelling, skilled person to continually clean area used by drivers and travellers to a consistent laid down procedure every time someone leaves a seat. Impossible to monitor the standard of cleaning.

Absolutely agree. Cleanliness on some bus/train services in recent years have been much improved by new stock but there is still some way to go. Cleaners are often tasked with getting things done as quickly as possible and with as little cleaning resources as possible... the focus should now be how long they need and what resources they need to make transport safe.

Hand sanitisers essential too - for those who cannot afford it as well as those who forget to bring it with them/run out.

I’d like to see some stats on the reports of cleaning requests from public to when they are actually dealt with some real service level requirements are required.
I’d like to also see some real rules when someone vomits or urinates on the bus, new passengers shouldn’t be picked up and the bus should be returned to depo not just some tape or news paper around the contaminated area.

Completely agree that public transport needs to adopt a thorough cleaning regime with hand sanitizers available on board for public safety. Currently I would not feel safe using public transport. Perhaps the compulsory use of face masks while using public transport would further encourage people to use public transport again.

I am a key worker and use the bus to commute to work each day, it is packed with the reduced service and very dirty, this would be good to have as I feel any public service is not well maintained, and if you don't carry your own santiser you're snookered.
