Holidays in Scotland.

Given that realistically , no one will be able to travel abroad this year for holidays , consideration could be given to safe ways for holidays to be taken in Scotland. Hotels and guest houses could reopen if tables were a safe distance apart and buffets were abandoned in favour of table service. Cleaning of rooms would need to be done particularly carefully.
Self catering accommodation could be reopened, again with scrupulous cleaning regimes in place . Caravan parks where static caravans are sited could be reopened with facilities such as restaurants/ bars etc remaining closed and residents remaining within their own pitch.

Why the contribution is important

Everyone has been feeling particularly stressed and anxious throughout the period of the lockdown and many people will have had to cancel their planned holidays abroad. Allowing safe holidays in Scotland would not only give everyone something to look forward to but it would help to kick start the Scottish Tourism economy.

I like the idea but my fear that unless numbers are controlled, some communities could become overwhelmed.

I like the idea too. Scotland is so beautiful and we can enjoy and get to know it better. It is perfect for kick-starting our economy as we will need all the help we can get to generate wealth. This will also help the hospitality and tourist industries.

With properly trained housekeeping staff I believe that it will be safe to host guests in our rural self-catering properties again.

There would be almost no interaction with our staff or the local community. Allowing guests to safely enjoy rural Scotland and bring much needed revenue back to the tourism sector.

I think it is a bad idea because their is potential for an increase in the virus in Scotland and also puts more strain on our services. If people come here and have an accident, then it is making it even more difficult for the NHS to deal with it. They are already struggling enough. There is plenty of time for holiday's after the pandemic is dealt with.

Realistically, the tourism/hospitality industries will be one of the last sectors to come out of lockdown for very good reasons. ...it’s not safe to even consider it just now...

No. People will then be travelling all over the place, extra burden on services, more accidents due to increased traffic, therefore more burden on emergency services and NHS. Some establishments will inevitably cut corners with hygeine as they do at present, plus most of these places are not designed for social distancing. Bad idea.

Bad idea. Until social distancing is lifted I do not want to queue with holiday makers for essential food and medicines in the supermarket and chemist.

NO. Any travel carries inherent risk of transmitting the virus to an area which is currently unaffected. It's too soon, wait until the science is more comprehensive and treatment or vaccine are possible.

We need to give people some hope to take a holiday this year and many would be delighted even if it was just in Scotland.

Hotels in Scotland should only be able to open once all restrictions on travelling have been lifted and, even then, only when they can demonstrate (to the local authority) that they can comply with safe distancing for staff and customers. How many of our smaller hotels have kitchens where the staff are able to stay 2 metres apart? The latest statistics show that male chefs are particularly vulnerable to catching the corona virus.
