Home owners

It would be sensible to allow all home owners to occupy their homes, including those who have second homes elsewhere. Those returning to the Highlands from lockdown in other locations could be required to self-isolate for 14 days.

Why the contribution is important

I’m sure this won’t be popular everywhere, but having spent many weeks in lockdown elsewhere, these people pose a very low risk. We are part of the local community and have provided valuable support to the local economy for many years.

It is not clear what legal powers the government has denying people access to their own property, certainly once the immediate crisis has passed.

NO. NO. NO. THIS HAS BEEN ADDRESSED REPEATEDLY ON PREVIOUS POSTS. PLEASE READ THE ANSWERS GIVEN THERE. Second home owners are currently not welcome in many areas of the Highlands. Most communities have no C19 and many vulnerable residents. There is often one shop to provide for all the locals and it is struggling to supply its own people. If that shopkeeper gets C19 then every household will probably get it because there is nowhere else to buy food. If you have been to a shop or touched a fuel pump on your travels you could be carrying the virus. You could be asymptomatic. You could break down or have an accident risking the lives and health of police, paramedics, recovery workers and all their families and workmates. Low risk is not the same as no risk. Apart from essential supplies all businesses are closed in rural areas so you wouldn't be contributing to the economy. You would be an unnecessary and selfish risk and unwanted where you don't belong. Long distance travelling should be banned. Remote communities should be allowed to prevent outsiders coming in. If you don't live there you don't belong there. Stay at home like a responsible adult human.

No definitely not- second home owners to stay put. No travelling to second homes- it will be open to abuse - certainly for a good while yet- I have a second home in the highlands and I will not contemplate travelling there for quite some time even after it’s lifted.

Second holiday/ home owners are stopping people getting accommodation in the majority of rural areas who also make a larger contribution.
