Home working

Continue to encourage and promote home working for all those able to do indefinitely.

Why the contribution is important

Continue to encourage and promote home working for all those able to do indefinitely. Not only does it allow for a better work/life balance without time commuting, it reduces traffic etc, improves the environment and has been proven to improve productivity and reduce absences. Going into an office once a week or less reduces the risks of sharing any germs throughout the year and the technology is there to facilitate this and still maintain teams.

Home working should depend on whether it is feasible for the individual - what about couples who also have to now look after their children, dividing time can be difficult. The option for continuing to work from home should be an option but only if and when the employee agrees that it does not interfere with their home life and mental health. Lots of people find the routine of going to work to a certain other location other than home and seeing their work colleagues better for their mental health than staying in the house between the same 4 walls. Individual differences matter.

Home working should be incentivised by government. Island sustainability would be improved if mainland businesses enabled home working.

It should be a choice, though.

Seems reasonable though there are difficulties.
