Homeworking

I think the FM message yesterday about “considering insisting” on home working where possible needs to be stronger. Those businesses and organisations that can operate with home working have a vital part to play in our recovery from Covid-19 and must be mandated to continue such arrangements. Every one person that can work from home will help keep the R number down and this should be a key requirement of the gradual lockdown withdrawal process.

Why the contribution is important

As above.

Homeworking has so many benefits both for the employee but also for the environment. Now that firms have seen the benefits to them this should be encouraged moving forward

Absolutely the way forward, there are many organisations that can and should do this, get kit supplied to those who are currently in work as a priority! this is now the new normal

    I fully agree.

Completely agree with this, if you can work from home then if it cuts the risk then it makes sense to do so.

If technology exists within the relevant business infrastructure and the person homeworking is able to fulfill all aspects of their job/role then we should encourage that as the "norm" moving forward and only have those working in offices who need to - either to fulfill their role or by personal choice (e.g. they need social interaction for their health & well-being).
By allowing more staff toe work from home on a permanent/almost full time basis, provided the needs of the business and their customers are being met, we will help reduce our carbon footprint, pollution caused by traffic, stress of driving to and from work, especially in busy traffic and bad weather and should also help to reduce the pressure on the emergency services as there will be fewer accidents.

Fully support - also reduces environmental impact. However some people don’t do well in this environment and prefer to be office based so some flexibility would assist.

I totally agree with all these points above. Employers have to trust their staff to work from home and judge them on their productivity
