Kids with development delays

I think it is very important for kids that already have delayed development to have support at nursery or school.
My son is starting school this year and he has global developmental delay. He was supposed to have additional support to help him get as ready as he can be for school. We now face trying to get him ready on our own. He will also have no closure of leaving nursery and friends behind and he is really struggling to understand this.
I believe children like this should be allowed to return even if part time to prepare them for moving on.

Why the contribution is important

To give kids with developmental delays the support they deserve and need and to get the best head start they can and the closure before they move forward.

The ERG is rightly concentrating on priority for staged access to schools for the most vulnerable young people. This will include young persons with developmental delays and those transitioning into primary/secondary/post school destinations. It has long been recognised that these transitional stages are crucial and we should prioritise for such young people at this difficult time.

I too am worried about developmental delays, in the case of my child it's the social aspect as she is a single child. She should be in nursery where peer supported learning is invaluable for her development, and I worry that lacking that will negatively impact on her. Resources may need to be made available for children in a similar position to help catch them up to kids with siblings.

Couldn't agree more with OP. Vulnerable children and those with GDD including our son have been ignored by SG's blanket restrictions so far, and require special support. They should be among the first back to nursery and school.
