Kinship carers

Provide support for kinship carers, most kinship children have additional needs due to previous trauma, and are vulnerable. Kinship carers are often overlooked in society and their is huge inequity across Scotland. Implement the paid foster carer rate to kinship carers would make a huge difference.

Why the contribution is important

These children are vulnerable and foster care is being provided free because their carers are family. There is very little support from social work. Carers are often older with their own specific health needs, I’m in my 50s and have my 6 year old grandchild, and it is hard work, as I have to work as well. Coronavirus has made this even harder than normal for so many reasons.
