Listen to Scientists

When it comes to easing restrictions, please listen to the scientists, who are studying the progress off the virus . Please don't listen to well meaning but ill informed members of the public. A study on how other countries are handling the virus and their infection rate is also worth looking at.

Why the contribution is important

Everyone has an opinion, doesn't make them right. There should not be any political agendas or personal feelings taken into consideration. Scientific fact should be the only consideration to handling the virus.

Definitely they know more than us but wee definitely need more medical info before lock down is lifted

Government advice is supposedly based on science. But scientists have different opinions too. The lockdown rules are made by politicians, not scientists. They listen to a range of scientific advice and then pick and choose what they want.

We live live in a democracy Pam, where everyone has the right to express an opinion, even you, whose opinion seems to be that they shouldn't.

I’m sure the Scottish Govt are taking all scientific advice on board

    Of course!

It sounds obvious but then there is the UK government...

A government who has flouted WHO warnings as well as scientific and expert advice... Now the UK is one of the worst affected countries in the world.

We could spend the rest of our lives listening to scientists. And waiting.

Even scientists have conflicting advice about the way to handle this. I Switzerland they say children can hug grandparents but here they cant. Who is right them or us? Sweden who doesn't have a full lockdown, was at the start scoffed by scientists and governments as taking the wrong action. Now the World Health Organisation and other countries have praised them for the handling of coronavirus and are being held up as an example. The government here and I mean both Scottish and Westminster are being led by scientists that wrongly predicted, by completely over exaggerating the effects of bird flu, swind flu and foot and mouth disease, so you can guess which scientific advice I'm learning towards.

I have to agree with yebaws. Given this is a new strain of virus, there a few facts available, only generic pandemic research. We’re learning as we go, scientists included. I would ask that the government be flexible in the science they “follow”. Don’t be afraid to change direction if it seems right for fear of castigation.

Scientists can have agendas too. The public has to go with it so should have a voice. However we do need to be clear in what is fact based on hard evidence rather than opinion. I m not sure that all scientific fact is getting a platform in the media just now.
