Make pavements one way temporarily

Have people walk in same direction on pavement- opposite direction on other side. Stick to same direction as cars i.e walk on left

Why the contribution is important

Stops people walking too close to each other face to face, it’s easier to stagger distances and maintain 2m. If you want to speed up and overtake someone then you’re not going to run head on into someone.

Stop couples walking along in twos and forcing other people into the road.

As per Australia (and likely many other countries besides).

This makes sense. Never seen so many people out walking .

Now that really is one of the most unworkable comments I've seen. At least it gave me a laugh!

We are used to having a set of rules that allow traffic to flow without colliding or obstructing others. We could adapt some of those for pedestrians as well. Maybe not rules but guidance. One-way pavements is a good idea.

Remove a percentage of parking, where possible all on the same side of a road, and a lane of traffic on wider roads and make the one way system for motor vehicles, not people.

Redistribute the space to people walking, jogging, scooting, or riding a bike, as our streets can support far far more people moving in those ways than if everyone takes to their cars as soon as they’re allowed.

If we don’t give the space back to people outside of cars, we’ll have gridlock in our cities and no room to exercise.
