Mandatory face coverings

Instead of a suggestion if I am forced to go back to work I will need to use public transport. Scotrail and lothian buses should make it mandatory for face coverings for all customers and staff.

Also supermarkets should not allow entry without a face covering on.

Why the contribution is important

I dont want to catch this virus but I dont want to use valuable PPE masks so everyone needs to protect others when we are forced into public shared spaces.

At the moment its a recommendation so people are not doing it, it needs to be mandatory.

I went shopping today in a large supermarket. It was quite busy despite control over entry. Very few people wore face coverings and a large number ignored social distancing. At least the face coverings could be controlled. There seems to be good evidence that it does help.

I never go out shopping without a face mask. I have been buying them myself and awaiting another delivery anytime from May to July. If I run out of my bought masks I’ll pull a scarf over my face. I think it has to be made compulsory that everyone uses one.

I think it is a good idea, especially given that it does seem to have benefits. but it needs some thought on implementation. It's no good if people start scrambling to get masks which should be medical staff and those on front line working. The message should be plain that this is in addition to social distancing and not instead of. This is also an opportunity. It is not difficult to make a mask (if you can sew), and volunteers could start producing some. Then there is the distribution of masks, which could be done on the local level, but also at the shops which are still open. I think we would find that people would contribute to making them - and feel that they were helping.

I don't think face coverings should be mandatory. Deaf people rely on lip reading, some feel claustrophobic with a face covering. Some scientists have said that masks do not prevent you getting any thing and the size of holes allows particles in. Also a good part of our normal social interaction relies on seeing someone else's expression which masks prevent.

I'm very worried about using public transport when I return to work. Please make face coverings on buses, trains, shops and other public places mandatory.

I have asthma and cannot wear a mask, my friend is also deaf and needs to read people's lips. This cannot be made mandatory ! The scientific evidence is extremely weak there is ANY benefit to wearing a mask and in fact face coverings are more likely to harbour and and transfer the virus. BAD IDEA ! If you want to wear a muzzle your choice ! I like to see smiling faces, as rare as they maybe.

This should be mandatory for everyone. I was doing my shopping while wearing mine and gloves .I was one of only a few .majority of people just not bothered. Its frightening.

I think if wearing of face coverings is to become mandatory then they need to be produced on a much larger scale. Purchase needs to become easier or they need to be distributed by local health services. Each person requires to have minimum of two masks to allow for laundering.
