Motorhome Holidays

Caravan parks could partially reopen to allow for Motorhome use only without use of onsite washing facilities. With a restricted number of pitches in use and strict social distancing measures in place and stringent hygiene implemented.

Why the contribution is important

Important for the tourism economy in Scotland and to ensure the ongoing opening of these treasured tourist facilities for the future.

Alongside this impose stricter enforcement of those ‘wild camping’ in motor homes who often do so out with the boundaries of the Right to Roam act.

Static Caravans, touring vans and motorhomes have to keep far apart due to current fire regulations there would be little need additional measures for social distancing. Most modern units have their own toilets and showers, and therefore there would be little need to use any shared facilities. Indeed this type of holiday would be far safer than any other type of accommodation as everyone would be in their own box and using their own facilities.

I can see no reason, with all required distancing measures in place why camp sites cannot open. High risk area is shared facilities but with modern camping equipment and vehicles etc this can easily be avoided. I dont believe they should ever have been closed and there ongoing use would have limited the mental health impact we are seeing by COVID lockdown measures.

It's back to the old problem here, you're in an isolated spot and you get sick. What then? You need to go shopping - local supermarkets? You need a chemist?? You need petrol or diesel? The argument against travelling to out of the way places was so that small communities wouldn't be overrun with holidaymakers, and it's still the case. We have a motorhome we haven't seen for 2 months as it's in a locked area, but can you imagine the rush to fill the campsites if restrictions were to be lifted.

Most motorhomes are sorned at the moment. I think most people are sensible with social distancing. Open up the campsites and add a limited travel distance. Tourism needs our money and we need to get out the house for our own sanity.
