Move with Europe

We are seeing proper plans coming out from just about every country in Europe except here in the UK. We need to get on with the signposting for the future. Treat people as intelligent beings, staying home indefinitely is not an option. A new slogan can acknowledge that and our ability to act responsibly. We must get our country up and running again safely.

Why the contribution is important

We cannot go on as we are and there are many examples of how we can do this already. People are already voting with their feet. We know that most cases now in Care Homes, we cannot isolate everyone. Trace and contain and let the vast majority sensibly and safely do what they will eventually anyway. Guide and support the inevitable.

    We started after Europe and we are not at the same stage as them yet, we are barely past the peak. It benefits us to watch European countries and see how hard it is for them to contain the virus as they ease lockdown. They all have different strategies and we can work out what best suits our country by learning from their mistakes. Easing lockdown too soon makes all our hard work with isolating and social distancing worthless. Sadly there are a lot of people in our country who won't act responsibly and other people will pay the price. How many preventable deaths do you consider acceptable?

    I agree we need to do what Europe is doing in line with where we are. However, the reality is we are yet to see any significant plans emerging like Europe, even with a different timescale.

    Totally agree with JLMBD...it is at least 1 week, if not 2 to come out of lockdown. Yes to allowing more essential businesses to start production ie manufacturing and construction as long as they can show they can adhere to social distancing. But it is too early to lift lockdown for the general population. If companies can work well with employers working from home then let this continue to allow lockdown to be eased slowly. I think most people and businesses are sensible re the restrictions so let them be guided by SG to open in a safe way.

    Learn from Europe (those ahead of us on the epidemic trajectory), Yes.

    Do the same? No. Different demographics and at a stage of the epidemic means tailored approaches needed. Can't follow Europe or indeed rUK in lockstep.

    Indeed, likely to be a need for tailored approaches in different parts of Scotland. Same true of England - what's right for London might not be right for Manchester.

    We also need to adopt the same test and trace app or we will not be able to travel to Europe for work or leisure as the UK app is not compatible in Europe so why be different when the EU app is working already and the results are there for all to see.
