Never have we had more NHS (Critical Care) Staff nor (Critical Care) Beds.

The purpose of the lockdown was to protect the capacity of our NHS - this has been achieved. All that can currently be offered is supportive care as there is no treatment nor cure. Even once a vaccine is available it will not be able to be used to treat CoVid-19 patients & vaccines require the majority of the population to be vaccinated in order to be effective. We need to accept what we can’t currently control.

We also need to accept the unintended health consequences lockdown is having - increasing substance misuse & suicide, late presentation with signs & symptoms of cancer, heart attacks & strokes; suspension of health screening programmes. Also the effect on the economy - we know that low socioeconomic status is associated with poorer healthcare outcomes.

Finally, concerns have already been raised about the Police’s ability to enforce these measures. This could be further comprised if people get lockdown fatigue & stop following some or all of government “guidance”.

Why the contribution is important

The NHS has never had more capacity so the aim of lockdown has been successfully achieved.
