One-to-one counselling resumption

I'm an addiction and anxiety counsellor. So many of my clients (and future clients too I imagine) are struggling because I can't see them at the moment. I would like to see a resumption of face to face counselling as soon as possible. This would be very easy to manage i terms of social distancing and all other safety aspects and I believe the benefits would far outweigh the risks.

Why the contribution is important

People who were in counselling, or who need counselling as a result of the pandemic are desperate to resume face to face, one-to-one counselling. A phased, managed resumption of this would, I believe, be far more beneficial than waiting longer then seeing a surge of people trying to book counselling sessions. Some clients are engaging with phone or video counselling but the majority have deferred until they can resume face to face.

I offer counselling and psychotherapy and have put my practice on hold because my clients wish face-to-face and not any other type of engagement for deep therapy. I am using telephone for supervising my supervisees (including NHS staff counsellors) but neither I nor my supervisees find this entirely satisfactory. However, it is unlikely that a distance of 2 metres is possible in a counselling room and I remain convinced that my wearing a mask is going to be acceptable for my clients.

I agree with this very much and have similar views regarding my bodywork and trauma practice. I think alternative/complementary health should be considered as part of the nations' healthcare system and recognised for how it can support people through this time.

I'm lucky I guess that I can still do therapy with my psychologist via Zoom but it will never be the same. Going to therapy was also more or less the only constant in my life where I actually had to leave my home. With each week going past I spend more and more time in bed.
