they're only far enough apart when people are inside though - how would you ensure social distancing outwith the vans ?

I agree. Caravans are all sited at an appropriate distance apart and have their own amenities which means they are self contained. Not everyone has the luxury of a large garden and often people have purchased a static caravan or second home to give them this option of more space and they are being restricted from using them.
Allow people to do the things that can be done, visiting caravans and second homes require no new social distancing measures to be implemented before it can happen.

Totally agree, as you can take all your own provisions and observe the social distance regulations

Where a site has touring pitches Motorhomes and Caravans should be allowed as well. Shared facilities could remain closed since modern campers and caravans have perfectly adequate facilities on board. Social distancing could be easily enforced.

Yes, get out there. We should open leisure before insisting on work.

Our residential caravan is one hour from our home and we buy food and petrol before we leave. We have an enclosed garden there. Short walks are taken close to the site as my wife has an illness and which restricts her mobility and balance. GP has advised her neurological degenerative illness is not on the shielding list.
Consideration should be given to opening private caravan parks as no risk to the local community.

People sharing a house travelling direct to the caravan, together in one vehicle to a (usually remote) place where there is usually a less dense population. By law caravans must be a certain distance apart. At least these people would have the option to relax in their own safe environment and as the same isolation rules would apply where is the issue? Only the owners would be there - the park would not be open to "rentals " or visitors. I know of high risk category people who were sent home from their caravan where they were self isolating as the parks were told to close! A caravan is basically a getaway and would pose less of a risk than staying at home walking around supermarkets and streets.

Residential static homes which have sufficient separation to facilitate self isolation should be permitted in the following circumstances.

    a) The site must be within the same Local Authority Area so that there is no additional responsibility for another health board.

    b) Only applicable to owner occupiers, not rentals.

    c) Any facility within the said site that allows close contact should remain closed.

Fully supported. Social distancing can still be maintained.

If the caravans are far enough apart and any communal areas, which are few in sites where the caravans are all owner occupied, are either closed or closely monitored, then they will be a lot safer than most of the owners main homes. Especially for sites which are aimed at older people. Possibly restriction on additional visitors, just the owner and immediate family.

I agree totally. Static Caravans, touring vans and motorhomes have to keep far apart due to current fire regulations there would be little need additional measures for social distancing. Most modern units have their own toilets and showers, and therefore there would be little need to use any shared facilities. Indeed this type of holiday would be far safer than any other type of accommodation as everyone would be in their own box and using their own facilities.

    I support opening.

Hard hit park owners and operators, and often wider rural economies, depend on seasonal income from holiday home owners. Over extending closures may have long-lasting and significant impact for companies and communities.

No need to open bars, restaurants and shared spaces yet.

As elsewhere, responsible behaviour and especially social distancing will be key.

I believe people should be permitted to stay in their own private static caravan. In my situation my caravan is much more isolated than my home and I come into much less contact with other people there than I do in my house. It is totally self contained so I would not have to use communal shower or toilet blocks. It is also within 20 miles of my home so I would still be using the same main supermarket than if I were at home and also the same hospital should I fall ill so would put no more strain on the local area than if I was at home. This would help greatly with the mental ability to cope with an extended lockdown.
