Open dumps and waste facilites

Reopen the waste sites for bulk rubbish.

Due to the weather and people being at home, there's a huge increase of DIY and people doing work in their garden.

Why the contribution is important

There's massive amounts of flytipping and rubbish being dumped in my local area.

The dumps could be reopened with no effect on infection rates if properly managed.

The amount of waste being dumped will cause health issues and vermin.

Yes as soon as possible using sensible precautions for staff and users. Countryside is being strewn with waste because these sites are not open.

Agree with the above. Some of us don't even have brown bins.

Agree it woukd seem to be straightforward for these to reopen safely

Would support reopening of recycling centres with appropriate guidance in place, including for example one person per vehicle Re opening good for environment and trying to avoid unnecessary fly tipping.

I think it's really important for people's mental health that rubbish dumps are reopened, residents and key workers alike. In Glasgow we already have a vermin problem and a lot of residents have given up trying to get their bins out on time as collections have not always been consistent so it is hard to keep on top of waste already. I understand why this happens, because the cleansing department are strapped for cash, but if the dumps aren't opened then their job will be even harder again on returning to a more comprehensive service. Bulky uplifts would also be wonderful after lots of people gave been spending their time isolating while being productive in their gardens and garages.
It's difficult for people to enjoy where they live if their environment is unsightly and dirty due to rubbish build up. The bin men must be livid with some of the sites they see as well.

Would love to get some home maintenance done that's fairly critical but cant while the tip is shut

This has already happened in some areas in England. With adequate precautions, this can be safely managed with little risk.

Absolutely rubbish that no one thought about rubbish removal. What is going on now has, in history, led to more disease outbreaks because of improper handling (no handling) of waste. It or ludicrous that we can't go to the tip or have rubbish collection including recycling. This is beyond an essential job... It is keeping other diseases from getting started

Recycling centres should be able to easily operate safely if distancing is maintained. It's already easy to keep a good distance from other users & the contents of the waste skips/containers. Staff generally have PPE already but this could be reviewed to see if any additional PPE is required for their protection. Re-opening the household waste/recycling centres would reduce fly tipping & encourage people to finish & tidy up their household DIY projects thus delivering both aesthetic & mental health benefits.

Very limited interaction between Recycling Centre employees and the visiting public, staff as long as they are provided with PPE are at a far lesser risk than others on the Front Line. Opening the centres up is common sense!Too much Fly Tipping going on.

I can't understand why these services haven't been already classified as "essential". Just nonsense in my view - with everyone living at home and many using the time to sort out, obviously there's more household rubbish being created and using recycling centres absolutely makes sense. Maybe the Government could explain what folk who live in flats and homes without any outside space are supposed to do with their recycling in the meantime?

definately need to open the recycling centres. relatively easy to enforce social distancing. fly tipping is a growing problem.

I don't understand why these weren't classed as essential services from the start. They are large sites that can easily support social distancing. The only problem is how insanely busy they're going to be in the beginning!
