Open Fishing and other Sporting pursuits alongside self catering properties

The Sporting industry supports many jobs and provides lots of valuable money for the economy. Fishing, stalking and shooting and other game keepering activities are mostly outdoor where social distancing is easily applied.

Self catering properties for ‘social bubbles’ to get together should be allowed to re-open. Cleaning staff could wait three days before re-entering the property and new guests a further three days after that could enter the properties.

Why the contribution is important

Boost to the economy and would allow some staff to come off Furlough. Also boost moral across a percentage of the population.

I wouldn’t support tourist travel to island areas just yet. I do support the idea of local fisheries being open to local anglers. In the Hebrides it would be a miracle if, with the amount of fishing lochs , you couldn’t social distance from other anglers.

Local angling for local anglers would be a good start to ease on lockdown.
There's a number of reasons why angling should be an early candidate for consideration:
    • being a largely solitary sport where self isolation occurs naturally
    • proven benefits for mental health and social well-being
    • a reduction in pressure on other public open spaces
    • evidence that non-contact outdoor activities will not increase infection rates
    • angling appeals to people of all ages and backgrounds and engages able-bodied and disabled participants alike
    • the majority of the population live close to a waterway minimising the need for significant travel.

I agree with the above comment and would draw attention to the fact that angling is the largest participatory sport in the UK and is enjoyed by people across all social groups.

Many of the places that anglers go to enjoy their sport are still water trout fisheries, most of which operate as small businesses. These benefit the economy by providing local employment.

Agree with encouraging activities such as fishing, golf, hill walking etc.
Also, open self catering houses as social distancing still possible. Not sure about the 3 day turnover requirements?
Would not recommend opening caravan sites as harder for people, especially children, to keep distance in communal spaces.
