Open Recycle Centres Now!

Re-open household waste recycle centres now. Most are drive through so the number of vehicles entering and leaving can be restricted and people movement managed. Only one person per vehicle allowed. In my experience this can be achieved with a small number of staff. The longer it is left the bigger the problem when they eventually re-open.

Why the contribution is important

The main reason is to reduce household and garden waste not removed by kerbside collection. Fly tipping is on the increase and this could prove dangerous to the public (especially children) when restrictions are lifted. In the meantime tipping will have to be removed usually by the land owner at their cost or by council workers in future i.e. someone will have to pay.

    Could part of the process for "Planning for moving safely to the new normal" be that a booking system could be set up (either electronically or via phone)? Members of the public have to book a 5-10 minute slot to visit the recycling centre to prevent everyone arriving at one time. As suggested, one person per car/van, etc who remains inside the car while the centre staff remove waste from the vehicle and dispose of it appropriately?

    If this isn’t started back soon then there will be even more fly tipping then has already taken place. This could be managed easily if only one person in each car could be allowed in otherwise it will cost the councils more money to uplift everything that has been fly tipped

    With small changes e.g. 1 person at a time and social distancing observed this could be done safely. Staff can control car access without getting too close.really don’t understand why these remain closed as has created a fly-tipping problem.
