Open Recycling Centres

Open the Council run Household Waste and Recycling Centres. These are not places where people congregate and it would be very easy to impose a one-out/one-in queueing system. Most people would spend a couple of minutes to drop off their waste or recycling, especially if there is only one car at a time allowed in.

Why the contribution is important

Residents in lockdown have spent the last few weeks sorting out there gardens, sheds, garages and houses. Many are keeping the items to throw out at home, but some are disposing of their unwanted items in fields, hedgerows and other open spaces. This is one safe step back to normality that can make a big difference to us all and protect the environment.

Most recycling depots have gates so they could easily have large skips outside the gates while having a person to direct traffic to keep social distancing each skip that is full will be taken away and replaced with an empty one no brainer.

Agree that these should be opened and should be relatively easy to manage through flow of people. Essential to stop fly tipping and for environmental factors. Guess there is maybe a problem if staff have been redeployed to other roles though. Maybe reduced hours of opening?

    Totally agree

When visiting these centres we dont see what the duties of the staff are at the site, but if it's not difficult for them to keep a safe distance, and there is plenty of disinfecting liquid for use during their shifts, and running water and lots of soap, this would be a good step.

So grateful that the garden, recyclable, and non-, waste bins, are being collected....[in Perth and Kinross at least] However, there is a lot of dog poo mounting up, because the dog waste bins are not being emptied....[in Dundee anyway] and food waste similarly, if those services were able to be restarted fairly soon, that would also help enormously.

I think the recycling centres should be re-opened as soon as possible. I have been horrified to see fly tipping on the increase and this would reduce it. As an organic gardener I am also very sorry to see people placing garden waste in general rubbish containers rather than bringing it to council green waste containers.
