Open the marinas and slipways

Open the marinas and allow boat owners to access their boats for checking, maintaining and using. Also open the slipways so that boaters can participate in a non risk activity. Marina staff have no reason to be closely involved.

Why the contribution is important

Restricting an activity which can be done in isolation just does not make common sense and smacks of tyranny.

Recreational boating would allow families and individuals to have recreation again. This is one of the best features of Scotland. Sweden and others have continued this activity, no significant risks of transferring viruses.

Recreational boating presents minimal risk, and offers benefits of exercise and mental wellbeing. If there were concerns about risk it could be introduced respecting social distancing, limiting crews to households/family groups in the early stages.

Got to agree with this. Marinas and boatyards should be allowed to reopen to allow owners to attend their boats for maintenance and repairs. I am sure there will be some hidden get out clause in my insurance policy about regular visits and checks. My boat is based in Tarbert Harbour and we cannot visit until the travel restrictions are lifted.

Recreational boating is a very low-risk activity where social-distancing is very easy to apply, and is most often done by family groups. Access to boatyards, marinas and slipways should be granted immediately for the benefit of individuals, the Scottish economy and to enable boat-owners to ensure that their boats are maintained as required (often by insurers).
