Optional long term isolation

It is my belief that the government should consider requiring companies who can facilitate this to permit staff to self-determine if they can continue working remotely. Many companies, particularly in the finance sector and including my own, are able to function with remote working and giving companies the directive to continue to allow their employees the option to work from home if they wish will significantly reduce the burden on our transport infrastructure and allow social distancing to be easier to manage.

If offices are reopened and companies themselves allow several thousand employees each to return to their offices then “the new normal” will in fact be the “old normal” as people will almost immediately begin to congregate in large numbers not just in offices but in restaurants/bars/shops aswell as on public transport.

Why the contribution is important

To allow the curve to remain flattened and continue to trend downwards the minimisation of people travelling and congregating is imperative by any reasonable means.

Great idea, until at least a modicum of confidence returns.
To enable the service industry to return when it’s safer to do so, the people working from home, should they wish, should be able to choose so many days to allow them to socialise with work colleagues by working in their office building for short periods. However I agree that when business discovers they don’t need to pay rent or rates I think working from home will become normalised.
