Outdoor sport

Re opening golf courses and outdoor tennis clubs. Both were running well just before lockdown, incorporating social distancing and sanitisation. This would add a great deal to quality of life for many who are used to playing a lot of sport as the summer approaches.

Why the contribution is important

Improved health, mental well being, exercise, lose weight,

yes but why those sports, what about hillwalking, watersports and other outdoor sports that people do and they are always socially distanced doing it - we shoudl be allowed to be outside during these months when the risk of infection is low but hte benefits to mental and physical health are so high.

Your paper and other information acknowledges the benefits of being in the open instead of indoors.
Golf is an ideal example of a sport that can resume and with carefully making appropriate changes to avoid unnecessary contact and maintain social distancing, can contribute to the physical and mental wellbeing of a section of society.

Social distancing is easy on the golf course and allows exercise at the same time. Important for mental well-being as well

    Totally agree

Totally agree. Golf in particular is ideal for exercise while practicing social distancing. Ireland are allowing courses to open from 18th May with a set of restrictions that most golf courses had in place before the lockdown.

Tennis and golf can be played at a social distance. Clubs were managing the situation before lockdown. No reason why people can’t play as long as measures put in place to control things.

Add running clubs to this as well.

Golf can be enjoyed whilst observing social distances and all the required hygiene requirements. Prior to lockdown changes were made to exclude rakes, ball washers and raised holes to meet the challenges. Allowing golf to return will bring outdoor exercise and valuable well being to individuals. Golf clubs is another sector on its knees with many clubs on the brink prior to lockdown. Easing restrictions in a meaningful way, whilst not increasing the health risks should be encouraged. No different to allowing cyclists or indeed those wishing to go out for a run.

This will help mental health and have very limited effects on the spreed of virus.

Good idea, especially as many outdoor activities and sports can observe distancing easily. Land and water-based activities that do not involve teams, and can often be done in family groups would increase quality of life.

Social distancing can easily be applied to hillwalking and other outdoor hobbies

I agree many outdoor sports are good for mental and physical well being. The issue of opening golf courses though is essentially closing off what has become a wonderful opportunity for walks in what otherwise is an exclusive resource. I would like to see the course opened for play 5 days a week and the other two days the course should be open for anyone to walk.

Tennis clubs and Golf clubs should be open . These sports can be played whilst adhering to social distancing.

Sports clubs and organisers or businesses, particularly those in controlled environments - like golf clubs, sports grounds, outdoor centres, can be given a set of rules and regulations. The public are doing their best to stick to the rules and if it means they can get back to their sport or hobby then I am sure they will act responsibly.
    Limit numbers.
Only people from the same household can travel together to the club.
No access to clubhouse / restaurant or any other 'social' space.
Set out zones where participants can access to keep control of movement.
    Stagger arrival times.
Use technology - online registration, no contact payment, email etc..
Outdoor facilities present an opportunity for the return of some sort of normal.

To include all outdoor sports where distancing can be sensibly maintained

Sports involving four or fewer players which are non contact can easily obey the distancing rules
and give the participants the opportunity to keep fit both mentally and physically.

Bowls is another sport that can be played socially distanced and we could easily play singles or even pairs without coming into close contact with one another. I think the bowling greens should be opened up and a rota system in place to play. Fresh air and exercise at the same time!!

I think any non-contact sport performed outdoors should be allowed as long as correct social distancing measures are implemented so golf, tennis, athletics for example. For contact sports like football, why not allow clubs to train as long as social distancing i applied and no games are played

It's worrying seeing pictures of people playing football in the park in London. Give greater clarity on which sports are ok and which definitely aren't. the chat about the football league is sending the wrong message about social distancing. Sports where people are closer than 2m and breathing heavily should not reopen.
