Over 70’s

No restriction on healthy 70 plus members of our society other than those such as distancing and congregating in specified numbers only.

Why the contribution is important

We must not put such a blanket ban on the over 70’s. I consider myself fortunate to be healthy able to play badminton, bowls and golf. Currently doing a full 8 hrs in my garden. I have been following the current advice to the letter and be very upset if I am grouped together in this ageism grouping. I understand if there are health issues but thankfully I have no history of any of the group currently highlighted in the guidelines.

My guess is the ageism is for convenient grouping more than anything else! Along with originally deciding that treatment in hospital was not suitable for any care home resident regardless of health or clinical prognosis..something that has been reversed now. I totally agree that not all 70 year olds are the same. Personally I think you should make your own risk assessment and decisions. My guess is though that the argument would be the over seventies will have weaker immune systems and are more likely to need hospital treatment thereby clogging up the nhs. That’s another argument entirely though!

The older age group is more vulnerable and being fit and healthy might aid recovery, but maybe not. Might be sensible to consider vaccinating that group sooner when we get a vaccine as they contribute a lot to volunteering, child care and the hospitality and travel industry as customers.

Yes. We are extremely active fit and healthy living a busy happy fulfilling life contributing to society and the economy as well as maintaining positive mental health. Any suggestion that that should be taken from us is ludicrous and discriminatory. We should be treated as everyone else. Just stop seeing us all as “the elderly” with the negative connotations that has and start seeing us as people with rights to determine our future. Are we still living in a democracy?
