Partial Reopening

I think that schools need to reopen as soon as possible to some students. But do not underestimate how the time will have affected children and house much support they and teachers will need.
Not all are engaging with online learning and those with additional support needs are struggling without ongoing support.
However, it must be safe to do so. Children share equipment in school. They are not very good at washing their hands and we need to ensure that's schools have and continue to have sufficient staff to support the pupils minimising further disruption.
Each child should be given their own space and equipment for personal use. No sharing should be taking place. Class sizes should be limited, unless larger areas for children can occur., I have a class of 29. How long would my social distance line need to be?
Schools also need to be cleaned.
Our school has taken away the deep clean and it is still even now. Dirty. Cleaners should be in using this time to get ahead.
In addition to this we need to enhance facilities for home learning. Improve broadband and technology access, so we can stream more lessons. Can we send kits and books home?!

Why the contribution is important

Children need to be in school but they and others need to be safe. Allowing children back on a week about basis will provide time for more formal learning and cleaning between different groups of children. It is not practical to clean between morning and afternoon sessions.
Cleaners should be in school now. Cleaning. They can work social distancing and the schools are filthy. Chairs should be washed down and scrubbed.
Technology will help those still at home. My own broadband is very very poor and we have to connect to phones to try and get work done. Teachers are going to tremendous lengths to support children and this is pointless if the children cannot access the videos

I just can’t see how week on week off will never work, it’ll just confuse things further. At least 3 out of 5 parents that I have spoken to have said their child will not be returning until August even if schools do reopen.

Children can’t and won’t social distance and staff will spend most of their time in class checking the children for going too close to one another etc. They will be putting hands on corridors/equipment and no way could staff monitor this.

Most schools do need a good deep clean but as soon as someone carrying the virus enters the building and touches something that deep clean is pointless.

Pupils welfare is extremely concerning though, some teachers are doing online video chats with their pupils just to check on them but it’s not the same as seeing them in class etc as if there is any abuse/unhappiness at home, the children aren’t going to say if their parent is in the room with them. It’s hard enough for them to ask for help when they are at school.

I am so concerned about pupil well being and glad the most vulnerable children are still receiving care in the hubs. As a parent and someone who works in schools I worry about the impact on children of school being a scary place, where you can’t be near your friends or teachers, if we need to wear masks that is very unsettling, little comfort for children in school. I would much rather continue providing meaningful learning materials via other methods rather than face to face, and for my son to remain at home where he feels safe and secure and school learning is a secondary concern, which is mostly going really well thanks to the hard work and brilliant approach by his teachers.
