Pavement Parking and Loading

Gov should accelerate the Transport Bill to make pavement parking illegal now or bring in new powers under Covid. Also remove the 20min loading exemption which us a joke. No point wasting time and money widening footpaths if people can just park on them.

Why the contribution is important

Without this measure wider footways will be used by many to park their cars as currently happens. As people are allowed to return to work there will be a move towards greater car use and any potential parking space will be exploited. The police will be powerless to remove these vehicles but they will prevent the safe walking for people observing the 2m distance.

Think it depends on area. A blanket ban would not be helpful. In many older housing schemes, it is impossible for traffic to move along the road if cars are not parked on the kerb

This is a significant issue. There are many footpaths that can not be passed safely and require people to move out on to the road due to people parking on the pavement. This in particular disproportionately impacts people with mobility issues.

Temporary legislation should be brought in as part of a Covid Bill until the Transport Bill is passed into law.

Pavements should not be used as storage location for people's private property.
