Playing Golf

The R & A have come with proposals to open golf courses. Our club has already forwarded their ideas 32 players per hour playing two balls, do not remove flag stick. Obviously maintain distances between players. This is a very sensible proposal to maintain an outdoor activity. The only part of the clubhouse open is the toilet.

Consideration should be given to travelling to golf club as membership is restricted to members only.

Why the contribution is important

As above to make exercise more enjoyable.

Golf does have its place in the exercise requirements of all and the kinship of those who require the social contact. 2 ball games with two players not four, at 10 minute intervals would be better. Car parking in non adjacent bays necessary, and there is concern re the corridors and toilets, which are often in the changing rooms. Pins left in, no rakes at bunkers all very sensible. No passing through though, and a lost ball should remain lost and "picked up" until the next hole. It may well be that different days require different holes to play and the limit set at 9 holes per tee off booking, a greater number of golfers can be facilitated, in the interim "norm".
Hand sanitiser should be available across the course, and emergency outdoor, open to the air, but sheltered toilet facilities may be required. It should be noted that the public may also be making increased use of the course as well.

Not removing the flagstick doesn't prevent the ball going in the hole. How do you and your playing partners retrieve the ball? From putting your hands in the hole, of course. Little difference between that and touching shared surfaces.
Better idea is to have the flagstick with NO HOLE, simply putt up to the stick.

Definitely time to bring back Golf in a safe way. Agree the lockdown needs to carry on for a few weeks yet as there are still too many deaths and people in hospital BUT it’s time to loosen the restrictions on exercise as has been done in Wales and let people look after their health in a safe a way as possible

I totally agree - golf can be reintroduced as a safe form of exercise with mental health benefits
