Police - Bobby’s on the beat

Tonight while I was out clapping for our key workers a police motorcyclist passed my home. It was an emotional moment. It made me think “how many members of the police force have motorcycle licenses?” Something about the visible officer connected with me more than a police car, I don’t know why, it just seemed more palpable maybe. Could this be our new Bobby on the Beat? We’re not a police state but maybe some of us need a wee reminder that this is serious, it’s been over 100 years since something like this happened and I don’t think there’s anyone alive who can give us any real-time advice!!

Why the contribution is important

People complain about lack of police presence but the force seems to be overstretched financially, maybe motorcycling police could increase police presence in these difficult times. We all know that not everyone is sticking to the guidance, I am. I want freedom from this virus, maybe this could help? Not a police state but a subtle and touching reminder

There are still plenty of Police on Foot patrols (Community Police). Motorbikes are used primarily for Road Traffic duties...which is fine...however a bit impractical for transporting prisoners. Motorbikes are also expensive to maintain and of limited use in winter.

Good idea, as crime is down significantly police should have more time for beat activity.

question- are police driving by parks in the evening and at night? I understand they cannot be omnipresent but a friend saw a group of 30 teenagers in local park at tea time and empty cans and spirit bottles are evidence of previous "get togethers"
