Pollution

It is known that there is a link between Covid19 and Pollution. As a resident of Glasgow I have noticed how much fresher the atmosphere in the city centre is now. Should we not now consider removing more traffic from the city centre to make for healthier living and long term protection from this and future infections.

Why the contribution is important

It should help people combat this and future infections

I agree both for health and environmental reasons. It is also much more pleasant to go out and hear things like birds singing - which cannot normally be heard above the noise of traffic.

No, the last thing the economy needs post-lockdown will be arbitrary measures to punish people who need to travel. People won't be taking public transport, and most people can't cycle or walk to the city centres, so if there's no cars, people just won't go resulting in more job losses.

Also suggesting that removing car traffic will protect us from future pandemics is absurd.

Awful idea. Hearing things 'like birds singing' does not come ahead of the economy and allowing people to get back to their day to day lives, despite what others on here might think.

I am torn between both arguments. However no matter what is decided the government and independent groups can no longer blame farming as a major culprit in global warming and damage to our environment, given the return of animals to areas not seen for years, how rivers have cleared up, smog lifted, we need to simply accept the person doing the damage to the environment is ourselves, maybe when things start getting back to "normal" we will, instead of relying of obtaining goods from overseas, turn to buying local, bring back manufacturing to UK as it was before, reduce number of flights this will make flying more expensive but hey then more people will holiday in UK again improving our lot!

Is this a joke? Remove more traffic to offer protection from future infections? Are ideas not moderated for common sense?

If you choose to live in the city centre, and enjoy the benefits, you need to accept the downside is some pollution and traffic. All of the businesses and shops you enjoy having access to in the city centre are there because of those people travelling to them. If you want to live somewhere with no pollution or traffic, move to the countryside.

This idea seems further on than what we could do now. I'd be wary of shifting traffic pollution from City to rural areas. More important would be enticements to cut car use.
