Post-lockdown Messaging

After reading that the UK Govt seems to be considering using some confusing message about "staying alert" as lockdown measures are eased and we move away from the stay at home message. I'd like to suggest a simpler and clearer message to be used in Scotland.

Keep Your Distance
Protect Others
Stop the Virus

I believe this would reinforce the message that social distancing needs to remain in place and that this is an individual and collective responsibility, including employers.

Social distancing protects others as well as yourself and is the mutual safeguarding that all citizens should be showing each other until this virus is beaten.

The protect others element also maintains the message that the most vulnerable people must continue to be shielded from the virus until a vaccine is available. And it is the duty of all to help our relatives, friends and others to do this.

All of the ongoing measures will help to further slow the spread of the virus and ultimately stop it

The framing of these messages should be done in a way as to show progression and give people a sense of continued purpose, hope, and encouragement in the fight against the virus.

Why the contribution is important

Clear messaging and communication is vital as we move out of the strict lockdown, to avoid the risk of public complacency and ensure that all still have a clear understanding of their responsibilities - to themselves and others.

Short slogan type messages work best if they are supported by clear instructions and guidance, so this is also a prerequisite.
