Postpone 2021 Exam Diet

Thos would teachers, pupils and parents to
plan ahead and take account of lost weeks or months of face to face learning to plan courses. Teachers are often stretched in terms of delivering within the time allocated, therefore further delays to full time return to school makes this very challenging and has implications for future workload.

Why the contribution is important

This delay is necessary to mitigate against massive disruption to pupil’s achievement for two years running.
As a secondary teacher, the ability of the SQA to provide a robust awarding alternative to coursework and exams is being called into question.

I am starting to agree with this. My S4 daughter was gutted that none of her continuous assessment assignments (which she worked really hard on) will count towards her Nat 5s. She would be devastated if it happened again and right now, it’s hard to see how next year can be a normal Teaching/exam year.

Even with re-jigging the way schools operate, TTI means some pupils, teachers and support staff will need to quarantine for 14 days at a time perhaps more than once, how do children of those shielding return to physical classes and there will always be a risk of a return to full lockdown.

We should be aiming to minimize uncertainty and maximize relationship building, safety and choices where possible for children and young people.. ...and get them involved too. They are an amazing generation. Academic performance matters but it’s hard to see how it can be supported in the usual way now and for the forseeable future.
