PPE

We should be making and buying our PPE in our country instead of buying from all over the world. Within the Scottish Prison Service every prison has “sheds” that the prisoners work in including sewing sheds. (My cousin is prison officer in charge of one of the sewing sheds)
Why can’t we get the SSP to sew the scrubs and overalls that NHS need? This would give the prisoners a meaning job while in prison and provide some of the PPE required for Scotland

Why the contribution is important

Help provide the PPE required and ensure we always have a large stock instead of ending up in the position we have found ourselves in during this crisis.

Just in time, and just enough if that, is no longer appropriate. I would like to see at least 15% of any demanded product home grown, so that there is a capacity to fill in any gaps. An aging stockpile is not enough. Central procurement requires substantive decentralisation, and a key purchasing requirement must be emergency procurement possibilities. It is the cost/benefit analysis of central procurement that needs to change, together with the financial levers to access revenue and tax and borrow, that is required.

This is an area I feel very strongly about.
    1
The NHS Suppliers who have raised their prices exploiting the situation should be seriously dealt with
    2
I don’t believe for one minute that there is no companies in Scotland that could switch to making PPE - I appreciate that there could be a lot of scammers around this area but the fiasco of importing sub standard from Turkey infuriates me
    3
Amazon and EBay should be taken to task for the exorbitant price increases for rubber gloves - face masks etc
    4
A team should be specifically looking at where and how we can manage this within Scotland. We are paying people to stay at home could we not use that manpower to do more for ourselves.
