Pregnancy scans

Under the current restrictions, scans during pregnancy are going ahead, but the mother is not allowed to bring their partner.Where the woman's partner lives in the same household as her, there is very little additional risk.

Why the contribution is important

This seems like a rule for the sake of a rule. The benefit of a father being able to be present at scans, and also for the mother to have support, especially if anything untoward is detected, should not be underestimated. The benefit far outweighs any tiny increased risk.

Totally agree. If the mother and father live together he should be allowed at the scan. If he is not allowed he should be able to video call in to the scan. These are important moments people will not be able to get back.

Totally agree - we were super lucky that our 20 week scan was on 6 March and my husband was there. Friends have had to go alone and have even been forbidden from taking a video of the screen for their partners. If it's impossible for partners to be in the room there should at least be consistent provision for them to be involved remotely.
