Teachers, parents and children will all want to get back to ‘normal’ but that is where the problem lies. Understandably, people need to get back to work economically. Both large and small schools have a large intake of pupils who it would be impossible to maintain adequate space. It may not affect children but teachers, parents and grandparents are then put at risk due to the mix of so many individuals. It would not be possible to ask teachers to ‘online teach’ half the class then teach the other half in class. Lower stages should stay at home, those who it would be impossible to stop hugging, separating etc. P3 and lower. Online teaching could then be set (hubs still open). Older children could be then spaced out in different classrooms, taught by the teachers then maintained by psa’s and other staff. Smaller children to be brought in at a staggered time when Coronavirus death numbers are much lower than currently. Please remember teaching staff will then be frontline workers and need ppe.

Why the contribution is important

If we want a generation brought up properly, we need them educated AND mentally strong. Small children still need care and hugs and plasters putting on knees, older and younger children should not have to see their teachers die one by one through lack of care and attention. Teachers still have health conditions, eg. asthma. In the summer, autumn months more teaching could be done outside but Scottish winters ( when the virus becomes more prevalent) may need part time and online teaching again? Or decent preparation for the future.
