Primary School return concern

As the parent of a primary 1, my preferred option is that schools do not return until August. To return for a few weeks is unsettling . I also have serious concerns as to how social distancing would work in primary schools especially when in early years much learning is play based. I have concerns as to how confusing it would be and potentially anxiety provoking for young children returning to school with staff wearing PPE which would I expect be required and how the whole learning and social experience of school would be managed

Please take it slowly - don’t rush and risk a second wave. The pandemic is still very much rife in our care homes. Err on the side of caution and return when schools are properly equipped and we can prepare our children and staff for changes that will need to be inplace upon return

Why the contribution is important

The health and safety of our community is at risk if we reopen schools too early

Please don’t risk a second wave .

Too many people have died already don’t risk more

Allow children , teachers and schools to adequately prepare we are in new territory here.

100 % agree my wee boy has additional needs an I no he would find wearing a face covering an also having to social distance extremely frightening,I will not send him back until I can fully explain to him how school will be,an I would be happier to keep him at home to guarantee his teachers an his safety even if that means not returning after August

As a primary teacher I can’t imagine social distancing working in schools or envisage teachers and children in PPE. I wonder, however, if teachers could teach 1/3 or 1/2 their class for a week, inc a focus on HWB, for a week. While doing this they would prepare the children for, say, 2 weeks online learning and give out packets of work. After a week, the next 1/3 or 1/2 vibe in for the same. Arrival at school could be staggered by say 10 mins per stage. (Eg P7 don’t start until 10) No outside breaks unless teachers considered it ‘safe’. Any snacks and lunch eaten at the child’s desk. Slightly shorter day to make up for lost breaks. Sanitizer for routine hand cleaning at building doors, classrooms, etc. Soap and water hand washing in toilets. Teachers use phones for communication so no need for children to leave classes on errands. Just some thoughts...

I agree, schools shouldn’t return until August.
If schools were to reopen for P7 to transition to secondary then that’s a feasible option. Or definitely some flexibility when they start in S1 to reduce anxiety for them.

Totally agree. Very stressful for our wee ones. Co stant hand washing reminders, being told to stay away from your friends, not being able to hug or touch or read close to your teacher. Sit two metres apart at lunch and all the teachers wearing masks! All this whilst having to get to know your new teacher in a different classroom from last year?Scary and even more traumatic than being home schooled until it's safe. Please dont rush the return and let children stay with the teachers they had before lockdown.

Children (specially primary) not always understand the severity of washing their hands or brushing their teeth. I think schools should be held off until the start of the new school year.

Kids are suffering at home. Need to get back to school otherwise it will have a permanent affect on education. Yes it needs controlled but need to go back sooner not later. My son is not learn at home and has been in tears a number of times as he doesn’t understand the task or explaination

Totally disagree. Even a few weeks would be a huge benefit. The younger children cant catch up with their friends on social media so they've been isolated too long already they need to see friends and school is the safest place for that
