Promote and support allotments

Allotments are healthy outdoor exercise and produce food. Everyone is working separately on their own plot - like their “outdoor home” or a garden. Social distancing works here. We need more allotments across Scotland and some money to ensure good sites. This will ensure local food supplies when the supply chain goes pear shaped. Local allotments for local people eating local food safely locally. It’s a no brainer.

I think this is a great idea. Helping to feed the Nation and producing healthy food which equals healthier people. It is great for mental wellbeing too!

The food shortages and global economic recession are coming... so yes! We need to start preparing for that.

    Good idea!

We are now growing our own food in our garden and it makes us feel sad and a bit insecure to see so many other gardens around empty or only growing flowers - yes they are pretty - but it's no harder to grow food than flowers and food prices are inevitably going to rise.

Growing our own food as a nation could alleviate all of this. Obviously we will all still use supermarkets for all kinds of things, but we will rely on them less. That can only be a good thing.

I think this is a fantastic idea! And something to be encouraged. Even those with a bit of outdoor space could grow herbs. It would teach us all to be a bit more self sufficient, and cut down on plastic waste from supermarkets. Nothing beats enjoying something you have grown yourself

People have found great comfort in their gardens and allotments, and many have begun gardening for the first time in their lives during the lockdown. Being allowed to continue on allotments, with safe guidelines, has been truly beneficial. For people it improves their mental health and physical fitness. It also gives the family healthier, uncontaminated and locally grown food. The bonus is that it's carbon neutral so helps the poor old planet!
