Protecting care homes.

I believe that "sterile" teams of care workers should be available so that as soon as a care home confirms its first case, the staff can be withdrawn for isolation and testing and the "sterile" team can be put in in their place.

Why the contribution is important

As care homes no longer allow visitors, any infections brought into the home must be brought in by a member of staff. By immediately removing the staff and replacing them with a "sterile" team, the staff members can be screened and tested, and quarantined where necessary, without further spread among the residents.

I can see this might reduce infection in care homes but replacing familiar staff en masse with a team of strangers could be terrifying for already vulnerable residents.

Older people are much more resilient than you think. I am a senior myself. Having strangers looking after you is not nearly as terrifying as dying.
