Public Message

With the current debate around key messages and slogans and what might be interpreted by changing them as we progress through the phases of the pandemic, perhaps are more flexible message across the UK can be agreed than the one being suggested to be proposed as reported in advance of BJ announcement this Sunday.

One that sticks to the key messages and is flexible while being consistent would be more practical. For example:

/< STAY SAFE >
/< OBSERVE THE RULES >
/< SAVE LIVES > < SOS >

This would still enforce personal responsibility for personal hygiene, staying at home or observing physical distancing, or any other relevant measure that restricts or allows an activity that preserves the R0.

Why the contribution is important

Key messages that are consistent but allow flexibility for quick or small changes would help the public and the media stay focussed on what is expected without getting bogged down in mixed messaging.

Dilution of key messages appears to be a comms strategy of UK govt. I think it's dangerous. I think they are using slogans to test public response and determine action by this means. The underlying intention is not clear and feels underhand! Scottish Govt is doing much better than that and I'd like to continue to see and hear clear, truthful and direct messaging. I'd like to believe the Scottish Government are not party to any herd immunity or depopulation agenda that might be in play.

Consistent messaging throughout a pandemic is key. A slogan that I think has had 2 iterations, 3 if you include the health sec and his IoW advice re tracing app, isn't practical. What is needed is something that applies throughout all the phases of lockdown and beyond, throughout the whole UK, that can apply for most scenarios while still relevant. Hygiene, distancing, adhering to the advice, rules and guidance of the day, whether at home, outside, in a health or care setting, travelling or at work. Just my thoughts on the current confusion. It needs to be simple and not change.
