Put people returning from overseas in a mandatory 3 week quarantine

Put anyone returning from overseas into a mandatory 3 week quarantine, do not allow them to mix with anyone, take them from airport / port to a facility nearby and only allow them into society after 3 weeks if symptom free and tested negative

Why the contribution is important

Once community transmission is reduced, we should not allow more outbreaks of the virus due to it being imported from other countries including England

I am worried about people coming into the country either via plane or train (euro train and travelling to Scotland) not sure if anything in place presently . I know in Australia people isolate from state to state and the state borders have been closed
    Thanks

I think this idea is both impracticable and unnecessary.

Given that the UK now has the highest number of deaths in Europe and the sending highest number in the world, it is likely that anyone crossing the UK border will have come from a lower risk area than the one they will be entering when they arrive.

It is much more important that people arriving comply with the restrictions. This is the proven method of reducing transmission. Rather than quarantine new arrivals, I suggest that more effort is made to establish the reason for their visit and to confirm where they will be staying/living and how they will get there.

I agree with the idea of quarantine but not sure if 3 weeks are necessary.

I agree with JJDunbar. I usually commute to Denmark on a weekly basis and I am currently struggling to work from home in Scotland. Denmark has a similar population to Scotland but went into Lock Down on the 15th March and as a result have only had roughly 25% of the deaths that Scotland has had. I will have less risk being in Denmark so do not need to quarantine myself on return, should I ever be allowed to fly there again!

Agreed, there should have been quarantine in place from day 1.

In principle I'd agree that anyone traveling from a distance (not just from outside the UK) would need to be treated carefully as a possible carrier of new infection. It does feel however more efficient to accelerate the availability of accurate tests so that people can be more readily tested to determine whether they are either currently infected or previously had the virus. Quarantine feels like a somewhat wasteful 'backstop' measure used when testing is otherwise not available.
