R Number

I don’t understand why the R number should dictate the speed of the end of lockdown. Until this virus is eradicated we are going to have to live with it. Surely if, say, it is found that 50% of us have the virus it should depend upon the amount of people requiring hospital treatment that dictates closures. It may turn out that we all carry it to one extreme or another as I’m sure we do with the common cold or flu viruses.

Why the contribution is important

The country has to open up again if our children or grandchildren are to have any future.

    The R number is important it shows the rate of infection ie R1 means that 1 person infects 1 person so it needs to be really low to stay safe, what you don’t want is a high R number that would be catastrophic and that what the lockdown was designed to stop, so the R number is still too high at the moment
