Re-introduction of sports clubs/activities for children

All children's organised sports activities are now stopped. Aligned to discussions about adult sport we need a timetable for when children can return to their sports clubs and enjoy time interacting with their sport and their peers.

Why the contribution is important

Exercising on your own is good, however children are limited in how they can currently do this and miss the interaction of doing sport with their peers. They need to be stimulated both physically and mentally and exercise is one of the best ways to do this.

This is so important. We have thousands of boys and girls across the country who play club football/rugby or other sports. How can we safely get them back? Can we? Or do we wait for a vaccine? Which means basically next season is a write off?

Only allow if social distancing can be achieved

    We have to start somewhere.
I have kids at home who are very active, the fall in their motivation is worrying.
Their mood has changed from being bright energetic individuals to looking completely lost.

Open the schools and allow their clubs to start again.
The danger to children is very very low.
We have to start somewhere, allow the schools and the kids clubs to be first.
This will allow some people to return to work, those who can work form home can still do so.

Children are suffering the most out of this situation, seeing their pain makes it harder for parents.

There are increasing significant risks to a young person's mental health and well-being at this time. My own child being hyper anxious and generally sad all the time. If a once happy go lucky child can now feel like this in a matter of weeks how badly are other children who were affected before this now feeling. My child's reduction in positive mental health is a direct result of the lockdown restrictions and the endless feeling of hopelessness that our government is feeding. outdoor sports, horse riding and athletics are a huge part of her positive well being responses. She has none of the things that are important to her, her horses, her sport and not to mention her granddad. Outdoor activities can be undertaken safety and need to be more then just considered, they need a date and assurance that they will feel better again and be allowed to undertaken these things.

Schools are another huge problem, working parents cannot cope and children cannot cope without school life. to keep these closed without any firm messages is negligible on behalf of the government. Our children are suffering, when child in more affected countries are already returning to school.

Completely agree. This is an essential move for the government to make. Going too hard on lockdown is likely to create a massive mental health problem so rather than overloading the NHS with a mental health crisis post-virus, a proactive approach to mental health seems like a very simple solution. Sport and physical activity is a fantastic way to do this.

Sports coaches are already planning simple ways of maintaining physical distance in many sports so the interim period before a vaccine could be easily managed if the government trusts the sports sector to do their bit :-)

Once the schools re-open. Consideration should be given to allowing childrens sports clubs to re-open on a similar basis. Sport plays an important part in the lives of many children and allowing children to restart the sports they used to take part in would be of benefit to many. Recognise that safety must continue to be the key driver.

If we know healthy children are not adversely affected I don't know why we are not doing this? They can shower when they get home, follow good hygiene, surely the overall impact on their physical and mental well being would be better???

Agree. Those involved normally follow the guidelines of their sports governing bodies - and they already seem to be coming up with sensible suggestions. Would be good to allow them to come up with proposals and perhaps to get the views of their members to get our young sportspeople back out and about doing what they love.

Most team sports require close contact - and while the kids may be resilient to the virus, older coaches, and everyone those kids and coaches come into contact with, may not.

some of our young athletes are our Olympians and Commonwealth Games Athletes of the future. In order for them to stay motivated and reach their goals they should be able to continue training in sports where social distancing can be implemented. For example in badminton and tennis it could be singles only to avoid any close contact with a doubles partner. Besides that all non contact sports can be managed safely. For these young athletes they already made huge commitments towards their sports and we need to keep them training for the sake of their mental health

Agree that kids activities are so important and should be resumed.Only children are very isolated and without school and their activities they are having no contact with kids their own age.Kids who are playing sport are missing out on important excercise and stimulation as well as losing out on confidence building by interacting with other kids.Only children are at risk of becoming withdrawn and lacking confidence and the ability to speak up in groups
