Re-start the Housing Market?

I feel that the property market could be re-started, as it is a relatively low-contact sector, yet it is a fundamental one. Surveys, viewings, conveyancing and removals can all be conducted responsibly, by using sensible precautions, testing and hygiene measures. An LBTT concession, to some degree, across the board, would be a strong incentive to get things moving.

Why the contribution is important

There will be many people now needing to sell houses / relocate due to changes in circumstances, as well as those who were caught 'in limbo'. when the pandemic struck. The economy may be impacted negatively if people are prevented from moving.

The sudden lockdown created havoc for Housebuilders and their clients with many half-built houses having to be made safe and the site closed down. One concerning impact is the client may have issues getting the mortgage agreement extended due to the delay in the build programme, in turn causing financial difficulties for the Housebuilder if things fall through. If a tentative phased approach is being considered by the Scottish Government please make allowing Housebuilders to complete half-built homes the first step.

Agree, and have seen countless ideas on here from others suggesting the same thing, including myself about restarting the housing market particularly for those sales which have been blocked for no reason. I haven't seen a single reason not to reopen the land registry and allow sales to start going through, mine included.

Agree, Land Registry can be restarted, with shift towards more electronic solutions for transactions. Viewings can adhere to social distancing and the positive impact on the wider housing market would be an important but achievable step forward within lockdown.

It should be possible for houses now to be bought and sold and for those who were caught mid process to proceed with their arrangements. We are currently supporting a friend who has ended up homeless as a result of the sudden change in the procedure as she had a moving in date but this is now on hold.
    Thank you
