Re-think self service touch screens

Even before this happened these touchscreens have always been pure boggin and I’m sure have been spreading all kinds of nasties, and it feels like self service till is just an excuse not to employ someone.
In Sainsbury’s I counted a minimum of three touch actions to complete a transaction. In a post COVID world surely we can engineer this to require no touch actions, or just get rid of the self service till and pay someone to do the job properly?

Why the contribution is important

Making self service tills touch free would reduce the transfer of germs and viruses, getting rid of the self service till could mean more jobs.

Even just provided wipes or disinfectant of some sort and a disposable bin, or something along those lines, next to these screens, would make such a difference to my sense of security in using them.

We dont need the screens .simply employ staff .they are filthy and harbour germs .just supermarkets trying to save money .the risk is just not worth it .

I agree that hand sanitiser should be available at all self service checkouts in the short term. The touch screen is clearly a mode of potential infection and with stocks of hand sanitiser still limited in local shops I think putting sanitiser stations at self service tills can only be helpful.
