Recycling Centres

Please open one or two recycling centres . The layout of the centre at Underwood road would surely lend itself to social distancing and possibly at Shieldhall also. Absolutely appreciate all the refuse staff continuing with our household waste collections but with 3 weeks between bin lifts and everyone at home it is proving very difficult to manage. Sadly there are many ignorant and selfish people now throwing rubbish into the countryside and fly tipping much more apparent.

Why the contribution is important

Concern with increasing fly tipping , potential for rats to further infest bin areas and public areas . Majority of people would not dump rubbish outside of their own household or fly tip however it is clear that after 7 weeks of lockdown people do want to do their bit to increase recycling of waste but need centres to open even by appointment basis if an option or with limited hours.

Agree I live in the countryside and people are driving out here (breaking lockdown) to dump their rubbish - it would be safer to open recycling centre and manage the flow

    Agreed

We live in a rural community just outside Perth. Fly tipping has always been an issue around our area, along country lanes, entrances to farming land and laybys. Since the closure of recycling centres this has become even more of a problem and all the "popular spots" are now becoming blighted with increased dumping of all kinds of waste. Apart from it being an eyesore, it blocks access points and must eventually attract vermin.

With everyone in doors and doing house/gardening projects it is ideally time to recycle goods and throw out others. Many people believe it is good for your wellbeing to clean out unwanted goods.
The staff should be safe and comfortable with being at the site. So any protective clothing etc they think they require should be provided for.
If they believe too many people will look to use this service than a straight forward appointment system could be set up. Every Facebook page has that ability and I am sure may other straightforward appointment systems are available.

I share the same concern. I have witnessed increased level of fly tipping in the woodland areas of Renfrewshire/Glasgow. Additionally, families are consuming more, bins are overflowing, cardboard boxes are pilled up all over the place. People are actively decorating their homes and gardens to remain sane during these difficult times which is also adding to increased household waste. We need the opportunity to dispose of waste accordingly. Waste disposal is essential and the current bin pickups is not enough for families all at home. If measures can be implemented to allow us to safely shop for groceries then they can be implemented for waste disposal at certain recycling centres.

You are at a distance from each other when using recycling centres so they should be re open ASAP.

Agree recycling centres should open immediately. They should also be open more hours to reduce the congestion caused by recently changed opening hours. Fly tipping is becoming a huge issue.

Would it also be possible to open centres to store items that would usually go to charity shops? Village / town halls/ disused shops could be used to hold bags destined for charity shops until such time that charity shops reopen.

I agree with the comments. Many people are taking this time to clear out old clothes, unwanted toys etc and have nowhere to put them. All ‘charity bins’ for clothing are closed and refuse centres have been shut for a while. In Dundee some people are still visiting the sites and leaving rubbish at the gate. I’m sure we can visit these places and maintain social distancing

Local recycling centres could easily implement social distancing and therefore should open asap. Help improve mental state of many by enabling house/garden rubbish to be removed hence decluttering. Also may help reduce the increase in fly tipping.

With PPE and an appointment system this is another area that I should be addresses. I appreciate each council is different but this would stop additional issues ie fly tipping and the dreaded rats having a free for all

This process is already so well managed now that transitioning to safe depositing of waste is low risk. Will reduce fly tipping. Will also allow people to sort out their houses while in lockdown because they know they can deposit waste safely.

Fly tipping also along the side of Loch Ness. Recycling centre in Inverness already restricts numbers allowed to enter. Could easily allow fewer vehicles in at one time.
