Reopen gyms

I believe gyms should reopen using a rota/timetable system controlled by the gym to reduce and limit the number of bodies in at one time thus allowing individuals to continue to use these facilities whilst staying safe and keeping a control on the spread of the virus. Individuals should be expected to train alone or with one person who resides in the same household and social distancing should be practiced throughout the establishment.

Why the contribution is important

Keeping active is a key component to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally. Current circumstances mean that tensions are generally higher and working out provides a fantastic positive release on negative energy. Having the gyms open also offers people sort kind of routine which is can also help to keep people feeling positive and healthy as my personal experience has been tough trying to adjust to a temporary life with little to no structure. I am a support worker and am finding my job more stressful than normal as my clients are struggling with constraints of lockdown. I’m sure there are many other people in a similar position to me who would vastly benefit from the ability to train at the gym regularly.

Gyms are germ ridden places and should be last to open plenty other ways to keep fit and healthy

I am an avid gym goer, who for the past 20yrs has trained 4-5 times weekly. As much as I love and miss going to the gym, I don’t believe that gyms can and should reopen soon. My main reason for this is because people when exercising are propelling sweat and breathing profusely, some more than others. In this environment, I don’t believe keeping 2metres distance is sufficiently safe, perhaps 6-8 meters would be better but a nightmare for the gym staff to police. Also it is awful exercising wearing a face mask, it gets wet and could cause bacterial build up and increase the risk of infection to the user.

There are plenty of ways to exercise without the risk of infection. Gyms are one of establishments which should remain closed for now.

We are coming into the height of the summer - what's wrong with exercising - walking, running, jogging, aerobics outside??

Don’t believe gyms should reopen, there are plenty of other ways to exercise, in fact I believe gyms would become busier as people look for something else to do

Gyms are very important to some people and staff have been trained to constantly wipe down equipment and ensure social distancing measures remain in place. Gyms can be re-opened safely and responsibly and should be if companies can demonstrate they are doing everything possible to reduce the risk of infection
