Reopen Recycle Centres / Tips

Reopen the recycle centers so people can dispose of large waste / garden waste during the lockdown. To minimize impact this could be done by limiting people visiting at one time by booking a slot in advance via phoning or a website.

Why the contribution is important

Currently people can only use the bins they have for the usual fortnightly collections. As summer approaches and everyone is doing the gardens, decorating and such to pass lockdown time, we are generating more waste with nowhere to put it (certainly in our area we don't have garden waste bins).

Not to mention we are building up other waste as well as everything is now delivered in large oversized packaging which doesn't always fit in the bins.

Help us all slowly start to get back to normal by making house less cluttered and more habitable by slowly reopening waste facilities.

This can be done without putting people at risk and will reduce the fly tipping, which has become a significant problem in the Scottish Borders

Can be done without putting people at risk, badly needed to cope with all the clearing out people are doing just now.

I think recycling centres should be open as I consider them essential as we don't have kerbside recycling yet

If B&Q and Costa are deemed essential why not tips/recycling centres? I've asked this question of my local MSP, still waiting on an answer...

these should be opened, to provide the fly tipping. Normally when you go to the recycle centres you need to wait in a queue till someone is finished anyway to get you car in so this is be less risk here and minimum adjustments required.

It should be easy to maintain social distancing at council tips both by staff and users - maybe need a booking system and control of the initial surge but would help protect the environment.

The huge increase in fly-tipping locally is a direct result of closing recycle centres/tips to the public, from an environmental health aspect they must be re-opened now.

Essential to get this done - there is never a problem distancing at local recycling centres and absolutely vital that people can move on the rubbish they have been generating for DIY and gardening during lockdown.

We must open recycle centres as soon as safely possible. Fly-tipping is becoming a major problem. Other possibility would be to increase kerb-side collections where possible, but I fully realise that this requires more resource use by local councils, and probably not possible at the moment.
