Reopening of council waste disposal sites

Recommend that serious consideration is given to re-opening council waste disposal sites and full household waste collection services are restored.

Why the contribution is important

This is important to stop fly tipping and to get people's minds back to correct environmental issues such as recycling as household waste is currently all going to landfill. If this carries on we are storing up further issues to deal with as we continue to pollute the planet with waste.

Many people are using this time to clear out clutter etc at home. With the recycling centres being closed, I agree that there will be/is more fly tipping. Also, the longer they remain closed, the busier they will be when they reopen and the quicker they will have to close again because their skips are full. Really don't understand why they were closed in the first place.

Seems really sensible to me. Perhaps even increase their opening hours in the short term to help reduce the inevitable backlog. This would also help with social distancing as the centres wouldn’t get too busy. So many people are at home just now, engaged in gardening and DIY projects. These all produce more waste than usual. Similarly, people are having a good “clear out”, so that also adds to the volume.
I don’t think it’s necessarily the correct approach, deciding if places should be open or not, based exclusively on their “title”.
By title, I mean “re-cycling centre” or “refuse tip”, etc.
The important factor should be: “Can this facility maintain social distancing, and can this be supervised/enforced?” If the answer is “Yes”, then it doesn’t really matter what the facility is, it should be allowed to open. If the answer is “No”, then it should have to remain closed.
This would apply to a school, a pub, golf course, or whatever...
Not a blanket yes or no for all facilities with the same title. Every facility is different. Some can, and some can’t.

Why these needed to be closed is anyone’s guess. Simple measures could easily have been put in place. Another example of council workers and leadership failing

I agree these should be open monitoring it is easy as you mostly just sit in car pull up to skip you require then throw rubbish in skip from boot of car yourself so no need for any other contact and if you happen to be getting rid of something rather large you can wait until we are less at risk from spreading anything.

Absolutely support the need for these to reopen ASAP. They're going to be innundated when they do as it is. Perhaps longer opening hours and a system like Manchester where even number registration plates visit on alternate days to odd ones.

Our road has had nearly 20 instances of flytipping in the last month, compared to roughly 3 a year normally. Disposal sites MUST be reopened ASAP

Would be helpful if it can be done safely for the staff
