Restart dinghy Sailing

Allow an early return to dinghy sailing as an inherently socially distanced, low risk outdoor activity.

Why the contribution is important

Dinghy sailing is a sport enjoyed by a broad spectrum of people in our local communities, young and old, and including those with physical impairments. Participation already happens in a socially distanced way for most sailors, with solo boats the most common form of craft. Double handed boats are often sailed by members of the same family. Dinghy sailing close to shore presents very little risk of being a burden on emergency services, especially if sailing clubs develop appropriate risk assessments for members to follow. Overall numbers participating in the sport is low compared with other sports, following social distancing guidelines can be straightforward, and for the many for whom the sport is a life passion, the mental and physical health benefits are substantial.
