Restart schools end July - a month earlier -

Assuming that schools do not go back in June and home schooling for those that are able continues until the end of June.

Why the contribution is important

Some really good progress could be made with an extra month of learning. Plus parents would be able to work / look for work more freely and quickly.

I cannot work from home when having my child at home, he needs almost constant entertaining and he is going crazy without school. It is very very stressful, and having this the rest of the summer fills me with dread.

Teachers are working from home now and have had to change everything about how they deliver a curriculum and engage pupils. Secondary teachers are essentially doing the work of SQA markers - for free- alongside this. They are working harder than public realise. They are not paid for every "holiday" in a normal year. They are entitled to their earned holidays in July/Aug and would need to be paid for any additional days. They need time to organise how school will look. They are not a childcare service.

Absolutely agree with the comment above. Schools are not childcare. We now have a culture where it's expected for both parents to work. What about having an incentive for a parent to stay at home?
School staff are at high risk. Children can't socially distance.
Also, teachers have taken this completely new situation and are STILL providing an education for all children. They've thought of health and wellbeing of pupils, making sure worse off families are receiving help whither that be with technology, food vouchers or other support.
They're still delivering lessons. Many teachers had never used google classroom before but yet have embraced this and are thinking of ever more inventive and inspiring ideas to engage young people. (Plus many of them are having to juggle their own families too)
Teachers are not paid for all their holidays and have NOT STOPPED WORKING, in fact are probably working even harder now and are under even more scrutiny. Parents at home are struggling with their own children (maybe 1 or 2). Teachers manage 30 EVERY DAY. They deserve and need their holidays to recharge for all the extra effort and time they dedicate through their working weeks.
