restrictions

I think the restrictions not only should continue as long as infections continue to increase, BUT ALSO the UK government must take more action. Currently plane loads of travellers are arriving at UK airports and ports without there being even any social distancing in place - never mind testing. It's all as normal in Heathrow as if this pandemic is not actually happening. What is the point of all our efforts, when there are no restrictions in place for entering our country from many other infected places, it seems very short-sighted to me. I have written to my MP regarding this and it turns out he has already addressed this with Westminster but has had no reply....Excellent work Dominic!

Why the contribution is important

This is majorly important to reduce new infections and to ensure our brilliant NHS can do it's work without added pressures.

Regret that the USA is spiralling into oblivion, conservatively estimating 3,000 fatalities per day by June. We must close this border now.

Infections aren't continuing to increase though. At least not in the general population.

Yes, stop plane loads of people arriving with no checks (in fact we should be concentrating our efforts on exactly that sort of thing) but ease back on unnecessarily draconian restrictions for everyone who is not in a care home.

I believe the R number for the general population is significantly below 1, but is being inflated by care home figures where most new cases seem to be occurring. I live in Lothian where only around 2000 cases have been reported in total from a population of almost 1 million (source: BBC News website). How many patients have been admitted to the Louisa Jordan??? Biggest risk of anyone outside of a care home or hospital catching Covid is in the supermarket! Get some perspective and let us out to participate in activities where we can maintain social distancing. Sweden had no lockdown at all and have far fewer cases than UK.

Not sure how you can say it is “as normal at Heathrow” when passenger numbers are down by 97%..

really cant understand why you would want to increase the current restrictions when the curent policy has given us one of the worst death rates in the world.

We need a new plan. What we have been doing has been killing people needlessly.

Kylesku I have not suggested increasing current restrictions, but maintaining them. My main point is that there are no social restrictions at all at the airports , even though flight numbers have been rightly drastically reduced, people are still coming here from other areas without testing or quarantining.
