Resume cancer screening and routine treatment

Resume routine screening for cancer - breast screening, bowel screening, cervical screening etc - as soon as practical along with treatment for those already with cancer

Why the contribution is important

The longer we delay these, the bigger the longer term health impact and impact on the NHS. If these procedures can be carried out safely, they should be resumed as soon as possible.

This was stopped to give NHS headroom - plainly NHS has done an excellent job and has plenty headroom - this should all be restarted to prevent higher death rates further down the road

The new, reliable, lab-based antibody test can be used to allow the NHS personnel who are confirmed as having had COVID-19 to staff reopened conventional NHS services without the risk of passing the disease to patients or catching it from them, initally subject to clinical needs such as prioritising cancer patients or anyone needing urgent surgery. I have made a separate posting about this in its own right.

I had breast cancer in 2019 and I am due for first check up this summer. I have no idea if I will be seen for mammograph and check up yet. All has gone quiet. If screening wont resume, please at least clarify the position and if going private for check up is an option.

Constantly being told that NHS is open - no it is not. After waiting months for a scan apt I was finally given one in March due to a cancellation. On due date I was phoned and told apt had been cancelled and I was back on waiting list. I phoned last week for info on timescale re this and was told they really didn’t know but should be within 2 YEARS!! Symptoms still there. There will be many many people in the same situation or indeed worse situation. Focusing solely on the virus is going to cause premature deaths from other causes - possibly more than those caused by the virus itself. Need to reinstate screenings, clinics etc ASAP.
